How Toyota boosted part-exchange inspection efficiency
Toyota France deployed vehicle inspection AI to improve the speed, accuracy and customer experience for the Toyota online part-exchange process.
132,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicle registrations
6.6% market share (France)
20,000+ total part-exchange requests
90% of part-exchange requests begin online
The Business Challenge
Toyota France saw a 32% surge in online trade‑in requests back in 2022 and over 20,000 enquiries on toyota.fr, with numbers continuing to rise. With nearly 90% of individuals, who are looking to buy or sell a vehicle, now starting their journey online, Toyota wanted to enhance its online part-exchange module. The business goals were to:
Improve the online experience
Streamline and professionalise its vehicle trade‑in experience
Increase dealer revenues
Expand dealership reach into the used-car market
Grow part-exchange volumes
Convert online leads efficiently and transparently
The Inspection AI Solution
Toyota selected Tchek’s ALTO AI to integrate AI-assisted self-inspection into their online trade‑in flow. When private customers submit a trade-in request, they receive a text message containing a link that allows them to conduct a vehicle inspection themselves, directly from their smartphone.
By clicking on this link, the driver is guided through a short process that involves taking a few photos of their vehicle. This guided route takes only a few minutes. Tchek ALTO AI analyses the photos to detect any damage to the vehicle’s bodywork, determining damage location, type, and severity.
At the end of the process, the customer can review all the detected damage, confirm their self-inspection, and receive a comprehensive, time-stamped report of the inspection that was conducted. This same report is received by the dealer.

Guided smartphone image capture
→ vehicle images are captured (body, wheels, interior)
AI damage evaluation
→ by damage location, type, severity
Report delivered instantly to the dealer
→ enabling a quick, accurate part-exchange offer
Results and Impact
By incorporating vehicle ‘self-inspection’ by the private seller into its part-exchange process, Toyota France strengthens trust and transparency between its customers and its distribution network.
The private seller receives a quick, clear, and transparent part- exchange offer, whilst the dealer benefits from precise information about vehicle condition directly from the toyota.fr website. The dealer is well-placed to provide the fairest part-exchange offer and to ensure a source of high-quality vehicles.
