The Business Challenge
FATEC, France’s leading independent fleet management company (170,000 vehicles across 300 clients), faced time-consuming, inconsistent vehicle inspections. Key bottlenecks were:
End of lease checks – detecting damage prior to return
Employee vehicle transfers – assigning accountability for wear and tear
Accident damage evaluations – deciding repair versus insurance claim to control total cost of ownership (TCO)
To reduce TCO, increase inspection consistency, and accelerate decision-making, FATEC needed a fast, accurate, digital solution.
The Solution: Tchek + FATEC Copilot Integration

FATEC deployed Tchek’s photo-based inspection process via their existing Copilot app.
Drivers are guided to capture photos using their smartphones, with on-screen templates to ensure correct angles and image quality.
In just 3–5 minutes, the inspection captures 10–15 photos covering the entire vehicle. The Tchek AI then assesses damage severity, reads VIN/mileage, and estimates repair costs. Damage estimates are then reviewed by FATEC’s technical experts to ensure accuracy.
“Once the estimate is verified, our technicians provide clients with recommendations. Depending on the case, they may suggest filing an insurance claim, returning the vehicle as is, or making repairs through FATEC’s certified network.”

Reduced TCO from AI Inspections
The deployment of inspection AI is now central to controlling repair costs for FATEC in the following workflows:
- Accident Damage Assessments: In the event of an accident, the FATEC-Tchek solution estimates repair costs and determines whether repairs are preferable, or a claim should be submitted to the insurer.
- Pre-lease Return Inspections: Using Tchek’s solution, FATEC can quickly identify vehicle damages that should be repaired before returning the car to the leasing company. Fleet managers also receive an expert report to compare with the lessor’s evaluation.
- Employee Vehicle Transfers: During internal vehicle transfers, precise condition assessments help attribute damage responsibility to the appropriate drivers.
In summing up the benefits of the Tchek AI solution, Aurélie Carayon, Operations Director at FATEC explained,
With smartphone photos we can detect small scrapes and generate an accurate repair estimate.”

Anton Fert, Co-founder of Tchek, went on to explain that,
“this partnership goes beyond simply using Tchek’s tool. It combines Tchek’s AI capabilities with FATEC’s human expertise to tailor results.“
